Fortwilliam Golf Club has secured another deal whereby screening can be offered in the Clubhouse on a Saturday in early May for a fee of £50 (Screening can cost up to £400 if carried out privately.)

Atrial fibrillation is a condition caused by irregular heart beat and can affect people of both sexes and all ages. Approximately 40% of those affected do not know they have the condition which is especially worrying since the chances of experiencing life threatening heart conditions for those affected are increased many fold. Screening for this condition is therefore highly recommended.

The test comprises an electro cardiogram which takes about 5 minutes to complete. If necessary, this is followed by an echo cardiogram which takes a further 20 minutes. The good news is the condition is treatable when detected.
