The dust should be cleared, cobwebs dispersed and golf swings should be finely tuned by now. Excuses will not be listened to and gripes will be discarded as this Saturday brings the start of "Major Season" at Fortwilliam Golf Club with the ultimate pride, honour and prizes at stake.
Starting off with the Scratch Cup Qualifying, this competition sorts the men out from the boys. Stroke play off scratch leaves no place to hide with every shot recorded and the reality of your ability is stripped bare and raw. The top eight in each section will prevail for matchplay and if you are in the draw, you've earned it. Are you "man" enough to combat your peers and win one of these trophies off scratch, or are you a wannabe? If you're the latter, there's always the Late Bar to 1:00am with entertainment by Kopy Kats.
On tour they say Saturday is "Moving Day". The question is, on Saturday 8 June will you be moving up to collect one of the superb array of prizes donated by Ricky Duckett for the Professional's Prize, or will you be stuck on your backside in your seat? With the presentation of prizes held that evening this is your chance to catapult your name into "serious golfer " league around the club and explode your confidence in time for the ultimate prize two weeks later. In the evening entertainment is by regular favourites Bak 2 Bak until 1:00am.
Indeed, Saturday 22 June is Pat Toal's Captains Day and this is when we unveil who is "Roper of The Year"!! There are many strong contenders but can a roper turn his game off and on like a light? We don't think so, and believe sheer CLASS will shine through this year to lift the most sought after title of the year. Again, the evening will be busy and this could be your night to enter North Belfast Celebrity status as everyone asks "Who won Captain's Day"? However, after the 1:00am late bar, nobody ever remembers! So you could be free to "rope" your way for another year!!
