Fortwilliam Golf Club

Notice of works to the golf course for October 2014.

The fairways are scheduled to be sanded with 300 tonnes of material this week.  The introduction of aerification to compliment the sanding programme has greatly improved the playing conditions of the fairways.  The holes created during aerification fill with the sand allowing for deeper root growth and a faster draining playing surface.

The contractor is experienced working on golf courses but please give them plenty of space when around the machines.

October 21-24

The greens were aerified in September and have recovered well.  The process used during that aerification only effected the top 4 inches of the rootzone.  The next procedure will focus on the bottom layer of the rootzone.

There will be two different machines that will be aerifying.  One machine is the Imants Shockwave which will slice down 8 inches and shift the rootzone side to side.  The other machine is the Vertidrain which is the aerifier we use on the fairways with ¾ inch solid tines at a depth of 10 inches.

The greens will be sanded, brushed and rolled following aerification.

This type of aerification will aid in firming up the putting surface by opening up channels for the rain water to travel down deeper into the rootzone.

If you are playing a hole where aerification is in progress, please play to the approach and pick up your ball.

Thank you for your cooperation during this time.  Please contact me if you have any questions.
