Letter From Greens Convenor 25/03/2016

Scheduled Sanding of the Course 2016

Fellow Members

You will be ware that the club has been experiencing issues around 'seasonal cash flow' in recent years but unfortunately one of the consequences of this was that the sanding of the fairways could not be carried out at the end of the 2015 season.

The sanding of the fairways will therefore have to be carried out during this coming golf season. It is scheduled to take place at the end of April when it is presumed that the ground will be sufficiently firm to bear the weight of the heavy machines involved. (If ground conditions permit the commencement date may be brought forward.)

This is an essential part of the ongoing maintenance and preparation of the course but it is regrettable that for reasons beyond the control of the course manager and greens convenor, it has to be carried out just as the season is getting underway.

Every effort will be made by the course manager to ensure that this process will be carried out in such a way as to minimise the disruption to the members. For example the amount of sand to be spread will be kept to the absolute minimum of in or around 300 tons - compared to previous amounts of 400-450 (tons). I would suggest that members take a few moments to read the very helpful and informative document prepared by the Course Manager entitled 'Spring 2016 Aerification Schedule', which explains the rationale and methodology behind the upcoming works.

I would conclude by asking for the forbearance of the members during this essential but regrettable period of essential works which is upon us.

regards

Michael Tierney
