Fortwilliam Golf Club can once again hold its head high after its Jimmy Bruen team became Ulster champions for the second year in a row. We will now play the Connaught champions in the All-Ireland semi-final at Carton House on Friday 16th September, teeing off at 11.45. The final will be held on Saturday 17th.
Congratulations are due to the whole squad and the management team of Patsy and Eamonn, who have worked tirelessly to achieve this unprecedented success. The Ulster final was played against a very good Enniskillen team at Omagh, but when a certain gentleman, who shall remain nameless, holed his second shot on the first from 150 yards, the prospects looked good.
The management team have asked me to pass on its thanks to all the faithful supporters and caddies who have followed the team from the qualifying round at Balmoral to the Ulster final at Omagh.
As everyone knows, the club is recovering from a very precarious financial position and we must ensure the cost of the trip to Carton House is kept to a minimum. To this end, a number of money raising events will be organised between now and Christmas. The first, as you will see advertised around the clubhouse, will be on Friday 2nd September when Louis Small will present a musical extravaganza of 60s/70s and 80s music. Anyone not into or past the disco scene, but who would still like to make a personal donation can contact the secretary, treasurer or either of the managers. Please do all you can to help.
Finally, can i, on behalf of the whole club, wish Eamonn, Patsy and the team every success on the 16th and 17th. It would be wonderful in our 125th year to be crowned All-Ireland champions.
