On a sunny September morning eight ladies set off for Cairnryan in Scotland. Through lovely scenery on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond
and onto our accommodation in beautiful Glencoe.
The next morning six ladies, Jane Devlin, Patricia McBride, Breige Dobbin, Pat Majury, Clare Loughrey and Ann Marrion McCambridge began their ascent of Ben Nevis. At 1400 m this is the highest mountain in British islands. The path was steep and tough. Two ladies stopped at Loch Meall 500m - two more at 800 m. Two of us reached the top after 4 and 1/2 hours. It took another nearly 5 hours to descend. All enjoyed the unforgettable experience, cold wet tired but exhilarated.
Next day with Maire Henry and Anne McGrath we were off for a few holes at Fort William golf club and generous hospitality from the lady members there. Mementos and whiskies were exchanged with our new friends.
This was a wonderful trip organised by lady captain Ann and Clare and well worth all the training walks over the summer.
All returned safely with happy memories of Scotland!
Patricia McBride
Vice Captain.
