Autumn aerification and sand spreading notice 04/10/2020
Work will begin October 5th.

COURSE WILL BE CLOSED OCTOBER 5TH.**

October 5th-8th FAIRWAYS:

The fairways will be aerified with the Vertidrain using tines going 200mm deep and 19mm wide. Approximately 300 tonnes of sand will be spread on the fairways.

OCTOBER 12TH & 13TH- Tees will be aerified using solid tines at a depth of 100mm with tines 12mm in diameter. This will create plenty of holes to fill with sand and seed. Fertiliser has been applied to get them ready for the autumn/winter.

OCTOBER 5TH & 6TH- the greens will be scarified and solid tined. This is the same process we used last autumn and this spring. The scarifier slices through the top inch of the surface with 2mm wide blades removing excess thatch. The solid tining creates channels at a depth of 200mm by 19mm in diameter. These deep channels are filled with sand to encourage root development and allow water to move off the playing surface.

During these procedures, seed and sand will be spread and brushed into the holes. An application of fertilizer will be applied along with a fungicide to reduce the risk of a turf disease outbreak.

I understand this sounds like a lot of work to be done to the greens when they are healthy and putting true, but if we do not aerify and sand at least twice a year the putting surfaces deteriorate. They need aerified to withstand the stress from golfer/maintenance traffic and changeable weather conditions.

*THE COURSE WILL BE CLOSED ALL DAY MONDAY, OCTOBER 5TH. *

Thank you for your cooperation during this time. Please contact me if you have any questions.
